Special Abilities:

Immunities: Half-elves are immune to unnatural (Force-based) sleep effect, and enjoy a +2 bonus when resisting mind affecting Force effects.

Low-light Vision: An elf can see twice as far as a human in starlight, moonlight, torchlight, and similar conditions of poor illumination. Elves can distinguish color in such conditions.

Keen Senses: Elves enjoy a +1 bonus to Perception rolls relying on sight or sound. 

Story Factors:

Diplomatic: Half-elves naturally get along with most people. They get a +2 bonus on Knowledge and Perception checks to when interacting with others. 

Elven Blood: Half-elves are genetically similar enough to elves that for all effects related to race, a half-elf is considered and elf. 

Languages: Half-elves generally speak Basic and Elven.

Long Life: Half-elves are long-lived. Half-elves reach adulthood at 20 years and can live up to 185 years.

Half-elves are the offspring of humans a elves. This lends evidence to a common heritage of the two species. Half-elves are natural diplomats and helped bridge the differences between the species of the Old Republic. When the Empire began to rise to power, most half-elves were assassinated. 

Many half-elves followed a Jedi tradition similar to that of their elven ancestors. The Emperor had special interest in killing half-elf Jedi. There are rumors that a collection of half-elf ears was found among his personal belongings. Only a few successfully evaded the purge, most on the elven home-world where they joined the battle against Drow and Orcs.

Very few half-elves survived to see the fall of the Empire. A few small enclaves of half-elves have forged an independent culture. It is likely though that, as the elves rejoin the rest of the galaxy, and elves and humans once again interact, more will be born.
